Many places to Shop and Work

Looks to be some great retail coming to the growing Kapolei area soon!

Kapolei Commons, is an open-air shopping mall across from the Honolulu Advertiser. The mall will be anchored by Target, Sports Authority, Office Max, Petco, and is expected to open in spring 2009.

Costco Warehouse and Gas Station, which will be located across from Home Depot, will open in spring 2009.

Crossroads at Kapolei, a retail center across from Kapolei Entertainment Center, is slated to open this November.

Kai Nani Pets

We all love animals! Now their poop…that’s another story! Dogs and cats differ in terms of poop collection. For those of us with dogs please make sure to always have a poop bag or pooper scooper when walking your dog. If he/she has to go, make sure that you pick it up and properly dispose of the package.

If you have cats please try to control their waste. We know some cats like to roam about at night, but please be mindful of your community, your neighbors, their yards, and our trash bins.

Downspout Mesh needs Removal

Wanted to post this quick note about some home maintenance you can do on your townhome to help out the community.

It seems that the builder left some mesh coverings on some of the downspouts. These should have been removed after construction was complete. Left on they cause build up dirt and debris that can put stress on the gutters and downspouts.

If you look at your gutter and it looks like this, yours needs to be removed:

Simple wire cutters or snipers should be good enough to get it removed, here are some pics of it being cut, and removed the debris inside.

March 5th, 2008 615pm Annual Meeting (or Send Proxy)

The Annual Meeting was attempted on Feb. 13th, but not enough owners
attended to reach the quorum needed to hold the meeting (50% of
the community needed to attend or respond by proxy.)
At the time of the attempted meeting, only 39% actually responded
with a proxy submission or attended.

Mark your Calender, the next attempt at an Annual Meeting
will March 5th, 2008 615pm at Makakilo
Baptist Church.

See our News page for links to the Proxy aplication.
Please, If you can't attend,
fill out the proxy. Mail to Hawaiiana (Attn Trudy). Further meeting delays incur cost for extra mailings which in-turn effects your HOA's budget.

Trees in Front of Units

Looks like with the recent HOA mailing included a survey was put out whether or not to keep the existing small trees in common areas in front of the house (three story units) or to leave them as is.

I bet, depending on your home and what small trees you may alter you opinion. I tend to like the flowering bush in front of my house but have seen some pretty ugly trees in front of some other units. If those 'ugly' trees require extra maintenance, I'd say lose them...

The options are:

1. Remove & Replace with Different types that require less Maintenance

2. Remove and have grass Planted

3. Leave as-is

Do you have any thoughts or opinions on the subject, if so leave a comment, would be interesting to hear some thoughts from the the neighborhood.

We're on the City of Kapolei Website!

I was initially considering posting some of the City of Kapolei's announcements on this site since they are so interesting. After talking with the program manager for Kapolei development they suggested linking to their site, which makes more sense.

They do have a page dedicated to residential communities in the area. They were nice enough to write about Kai Nani and link to this site. Check it out, and the rest of their site as well a ton of good information on the future of Kapolei: http://www.kapolei.com/residential_communities.cfm
